Ali Murray Just for Fun

May is here, and with it, the dreaded Spring Slump. The sun is shining; flowers are in full bloom; Mother Nature herself is practically begging you to come outdoors and enjoy everything this great green earth has to offer–but you’ve got to stay inside and focus on work instead. Bummer!

Staring outside at a beautiful spring day when you’re stuck indoors can bring anyone’s mood down, so we’ve put together a playlist of happy songs that’ll bring those good spring vibes to you no matter where you are.

#1: Katrina & The Waves – Walking on Sunshine

All right, so you can’t literally bottle the sunshine and bring it inside. But you can put this song on full blast and dance around in a pair of cool shades. Best used when you’ve got a task you’re really dreading, because it’s physically impossible not to smile while singing “WHOA-OH!” at the top of your lungs.

#2: Queen – Another One Bites the Dust

If the prospect of spring cleaning is exacerbating your slump, no worries: a little Queen can help you out! This song is perfect for convincing yourself that no, you don’t need to keep that Starbucks receipt from 2012 “just in case.”

#3: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs – Heigh Ho

Doesn’t matter how Grumpy, Sleepy, or Dopey you’re feeling on any given day–this classic Disney tune will get you ready to work in a heartbeat! (Or…it could put you in the mood to do nothing but watch kids’ movies all day…but hey, you take your chances.)

#4: The Beatles – With A Little Help From My Friends

More likely than not, your coworkers are spring-slumping, too. This is a great song to play when you need a little musical group therapy.

#5: Alice Cooper – School’s Out

Alice Cooper’s famous jam isn’t just for kids who want to start their summer vacations with a bang–it’s for grown-ups who like to pretend their starting a long summer vacation, too.

#6: Ozzy Osbourne – Crazy Train

This sports stadium staple is the best way to make an afternoon spent responding to emails feel like playing NFL football in front of thousands of screaming fans. Repeat that intro on a loop and you’ve got essentially infinite motivation at your fingertips. All aboard the Crazy Train to Productivity Town! Choo choo!

#7: Gloria Gaynor – I Will Survive

Some days, you try everything you can to stay upbeat. You listen to our fun playlist, you take as many breaks as you reasonably can… but life still seems to be getting you down. In moments like this, blast Gloria Gaynor’s iconic survival song just to remind yourself that you will make it through whatever’s plaguing you–be it an especially tough project or general spring slump blues.

And if none of our songs cure your Spring Slump blues? Take direct action–go out and enjoy the nice day, even if it’s only for a few minutes. A lunchtime stroll around the block never hurt anybody, and besides, you’ve earned it.
