Are you stuck in a benefits communication rut? This year, throw on your HR lab goggles and experiment with these three free communication ideas.
#1. Make DIY video content
Use your webcam or smartphone to record quick, fun, helpful videos, then email them to your workforce. Reminders about important benefits deadlines, money-saving health care tips, a very low-budget ‘movie trailer’ for your upcoming wellness event: the sky’s the limit. You might even play around with a video editing app or free software like iMovie (for Mac) or Windows Movie Maker (for PC).
For mega-bonus points: consider asking employees to say nice things about the programs or tools you’re promoting on camera–and share those videos too.
#2. Create an #i-heart-benefits Slack channel
Create a benefits-related channel (ideally for use year-round, but definitely for open enrollment) and invite your employees to ask questions in the channel whenever they pop up. Then use any intel about employee concerns to create (or improve) other employee-friendly communications.
#3. Get managers on board
Your employees probably have more regular contact with their managers than they do with HR. Use that relationship to your benefit by enlisting managers’ help in getting your message across.
Whenever you have something to promote, email managers a few key talking points to pass along. Make sure to be explicit about when and how they should share the information. The more specific you are, the more likely they will be to follow through.
